b. Transform a classroom, school and/or the community using Indigenous worldviews, the Seven Teachings, and decolonization.
3. Capacity Builders - Demonstrate the ability to build capacity for decolonization at all levels of the educational system and the community. The objectives are to:
a. Develop a process to build capacity for decolonization within the classroom, school, and/or the community.
b. Connect Indigenous worldviews of education to the classroom and the community.

TMC Master of Education is designed for educators, educational administrators and leaders, Indigenous community members, and other professionals in education settings who want in-depth preparation on Indigenous educational frameworks, theories, policies, curricular approaches, and community relationships that build upon Indigenous knowledge systems. You must have your bachelor’s degree to apply. The application is available on the TMC website https://www.tm.edu/

Admissions
The Master of Education (M.Ed.) offers courses in a two-year rotation. The number of students accepted in each cohort is 20. The program is delivered online. It is designed for educators, educational administrators and leaders, Indigenous community members, and other professionals in education settings who want in-depth preparation on Indigenous educational frameworks, theories, policies, curricular approaches, and community relationships that build upon Indigenous knowledge systems.

Application Process
Step 1: Meet Admission Requirements
To be considered for admission to the Master of Education (M.Ed.) program, you must meet the following requirements:
- Undergraduate Degree: Hold an undergraduate degree (B.A., B.S., or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution.
- GPA: Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in the last two years of your undergraduate degree.
At TMC, our Master’s program maintains a rigorous academic standard, typically requiring applicants to have a minimum GPA of 3.0. However, we recognize that a GPA does not always fully capture an applicant’s potential for success in our program. Therefore, we are open to considering exceptional candidates who may not meet this GPA requirement under the following circumstances:
- Professional Experience: Applicants with significant professional experience in a relevant field demonstrating advanced skills and knowledge may be considered. This experience should showcase the applicant’s capability to contribute to and benefit from our program.
- Personal Hardships: Consideration will be given to applicants who have faced significant personal or professional hardships that impacted their academic performance but have since shown resilience and a commitment to personal and professional growth.
- Letters of Recommendation: Strong letters of recommendation from professionals in the field or academic mentors who can attest to the applicant’s abilities, work ethic, and potential for success in the program.
- Statement of Purpose: A compelling statement of purpose that clearly articulates the applicant’s goals, motivation, and reasons for pursuing the Master’s program at Turtle Mountain College. Applicants who wish to be considered for admission under these exceptional circumstances must provide supporting documentation and a detailed explanation of their situation. Our admissions committee will review these applications on a case-by-case basis, considering the holistic profile of the applicant. We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment and believe in providing opportunities for individuals who have demonstrated the ability to overcome challenges and exhibit strong potential for success.
Step 2: Submit Additional Documentation
- Transcripts:
- Submit official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate coursework to tmccadminssions@tm.edu – TMCs Admissions Officer.
- References:
- Provide three references using the M.Ed. Reference Form. At least two references must be from professionals who can speak to your work ethic, abilities, and potential for graduate study. (Appendix A)
- Statement of Intent:
- Write a 2-3-page statement of intent addressing the following questions:
- What key experiences have contributed to your commitment to work in the field of education or with education-related issues?
- What do you view as your most significant professional accomplishment(s) and challenge(s) to date?
- How did they inform your development?
- How do you currently incorporate the 7 Teachings in your work?
- What issues would you like to tackle in your career as a leader through this M.Ed. program?

Step 3: Review and Admissions Decision
- Initial Review: All applicants must meet the requirements for Admission to both TMC and the Master of Education Graduate Program.
- Your statement should be your original work and will be assessed by the Graduate Committee and scored using a Rubric on the criteria of (1) Clarity of Purpose, (2) Critical Thinking and Reflection, and (3) Writing Quality. (see pg. 31)
Applicants scoring below 3.0 and other applicants may be placed on a waitlist when the cohort capacity of 20 is attained. Applicants scoring above 3.0 will be placed on the waitlist on a first-come, first-served basis.
Notification: Applicants will be notified via email and the address on file once final admission decisions are made.
Step 4: TMC Admission Application
- Complete TMC General Admission: All students initially accepted to the M.Ed. program must complete the TMC general admission application process at the college website. A $25 process fee can be paid online after completing admissions.
