HVAC 108 Hydronic Heating Systems

This introductory course provides first-year students with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills required to understand, install, and maintain residential and light commercial hydronic heating systems. Students will learn the principles of heat transfer, system components, piping layouts, boilers, pumps, controls, and safe operating procedures used in hot water heating systems.

Topics include system design basics, reading blueprints and schematics, circulator operation, expansion tanks, zoning methods, radiant floor heating, troubleshooting techniques, and energy efficiency practices. Students will also gain hands-on experience using industry tools, materials, and safety standards commonly applied in the HVAC and plumbing trades.

By the end of the course, students will be able to identify hydronic system components, explain system operation, perform basic installations and maintenance procedures, and apply safe work practices in laboratory and field settings.
