SPEC 297 Moss Bag and Doll Cradle Board

This course introduces students to the traditional practice and history of the Cree style Moss Bag and Anishinabe Doll size Cradle Board. Both styles were utilized on our reservation. Students will be guided step by step, beginning with making a pattern, and complete the course with their own Moss Bag and Cradle Board. Instruction also includes the traditional practice of designing an Ojibwa floral pattern, as well as appliqué stitch beadwork and hand-stitching of the covers of both the Bag and Cradle. Documentary notes and diagrams of each stage of the process will be required.
