LANG 403 Decolonizing Language and Culture

This course will examine the history of the relationship, laws, and treaties between the United States government and Native American tribes. The effects of Native American boarding schools on culture and language loss will be examined. A timeline of United States policies outlining the key points of Native American education, self-determination, and tribal sovereignty will also be explored as well as current trends in Native language and cultural revitalization efforts on behalf of tribal people.
