Academic Bankruptcy:
TMCC has a policy for allowing a student who has experienced academic problems to apply to the Academic Standards Committee in writing for Academic Bankruptcy.
Academic Bankruptcy is designed for the benefit of the student who had an extremely poor start academically. Students may apply for Academic Bankruptcy only after they have sat out the required term or terms of their academic suspension. In some extenuating circumstances, Academic Bankruptcy can be submitted to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for review. The Vice President of Academic Affairs will then meet with Registrar and other departments as needed to decide on the students submissions.
The consequences of Academic Bankruptcy are:
- No credit is counted from previous transfer course work.
- All courses and grades will remain on the transcript, but will not be used in calculating cumulative GPA.
- Academic Bankruptcy will only be granted once throughout a student’s academic career at TMCC.
- Bankruptcy does not clear an individual’s record of previously attempted credits and grade point average for Title IV funding.
- A student who is using Veterans Administration benefits must consult a veteran’s representative before they use this policy.
