AHU 201 Anishinaabe Contemporary Attire

In this course students will learn about traditional attire and contemporary fashion trends and the meaning behind both. Students will learn how Anishinaabe fashion trends have evolved and how they are an important part of our identity. Students will create their own attire using traditional meanings with some contemporary flare. This attire is used across North American by Indigenous people for professional event settings such as the work place, conferences, powwows, and traditional ceremonies, etc. Students can make either a ribbon dress with Anishinaabe applique (floral) work and jewelry or a basic ribbon shirt with Anishinaabe applique (floral) work and jewelry.
